Hoke County Animal Shelter

Looking for something rewarding to do on these beautiful days we’ve been having? Come on out to take our shelter dogs for a walk or a run! There are plenty of cats and kittens that need socialization. And the cleaning of bowls, blankets, and litter boxes is a never ending task that shelter workers would love some help with. Minors are allowed to volunteer with a parent/guardian present. Call the animal shelter today to find out how you can help!

Hoke Grown Community Garden

Hoke Grown Community Garden's playscape is officially ready for the next big step, and we’d love your help! The pathways are prepped for mulching, and all mulch is already on site. Volunteers can help spread mulch and continue shaping this exciting new community space.

We also have two large dirt piles already on site that will become the playscape’s hills. Volunteers will help shape these into smooth, playful mounds. After shaping, they’ll be topped with soil and rye grass seed for the winter. In the spring, the hills will be finished with sod to create a fun, natural play area for kids.

You’re welcome to bring your own tools, or you can borrow shovels and rakes from the on-site Tool Lending Library.

If you’d like to help, please coordinate directly with Arielle Beal, Garden Director & Volunteer Coordinator. All volunteer times and tasks must be scheduled with her in advance to ensure safety and organization.

Hoke County Open Door Soupn Kitchen

Ongoing Volunteer Opportunity for Adults and Teens:

Did you know the Hoke County Open Door Soup Kitchen has a Community Closet?

We love how they go above and beyond to support our community in so many ways.

Unfortunately, due to a lack of volunteers, the Community Closet is currently only able to open once a month. Donations are received regularly, but they need helping hands to organize items and assist community members in finding what they need.

Let’s come together to help keep this incredible resource open more often so those who rely on it can access it when they need it most.

Interested in volunteering or learning more?

Please contact Mrs. Betty Perkins at coaunity1@gmail.com

or 910-496-5787.

Together, we can make a difference.
